I've worked out that the better looking someone is and the more glamour they inject into the profile picture the more likely their is to be crap

If we could chose what we look like, wouldn't we all select the glamorous, perfect booty option? - Samantha Anne Hutchinson

I wouldn't. Looks only have a ten-year shelf life at best. And if everyone was beautiful, it would self-destruct the standards of beauty and ugliness. We'd end up with a new standard, Superbeauty, normal beauty and plain beauty. It would almost be like entering Hitler's utopian Aryan super-race fantasy world, where ridiculous sciences like phrenology are used to gage a person's worth. I've heard it said before, that beautiful women don't get asked out much, because a lot of guys find them unapproachable. And for the extremely vain who are beautiful, it must become a nightmare to them, in their later years, when it all starts falling apart.

On the other hand, if your ugly, your already there. And you might even start getting better looking with age. Some of my favorite actors were ugly on the outside- Charles Bronson, Ernest Borgnine, Sissy Spacek, Lee Marvin, Jeanne Moreau, etc. But had a lot of talent to make up for looks. Unlike the current crop of mannequins in Hollywood.

But there's some good looking ones with talent, I agree. As you say, the beauty can "mask" the talent and ability. And if we cared about actual ability in this world, Ross Perot or Ralph Nader would have been elected president, instead of Clinton or Bush, and this world might be in better shape for it. But it took Nixon almost a decade, just to get past a case of 5-o'clock shadow, before he got elected.

Since when did what a persons appearance dictate anything about their art? I always thought it was their mind and their life experience that determined the manner of their creativity.

And for that matter, beauty is very difficult to define. When the Fauves first dislpayed their work it was thought to be garrish and atrocious, thus the nickname the Fauves. However, some of us would argue it as the some of the best examples of beauty in painting.

My great-grandmother was a very wise woman. She once said to me that, "When you point your finger at someone, just remember there are three pointing back at you!" In saying that, I realise that the opinions we express about our world say more about ourselves that they do about it.

I think the initial post is whimsical and unfounded. The personal appreciation of beauty and art is subjective, influenced by cultural, time and environmental factors, etc... How do we measure it in a way that is consistent and applies indiscriminately to all without squeezing them into a box? ... This is impossible! Anyway, as artists we should all be challenging these superimposed notions in my opinion!

We don't have to appreciate everything, in fact I would urge you not to, but if you don't have something constructive to say so we can all learn, progress and grow....

Another thing my good-old-granny used to say is, "One (wo)man's rubbish is another's treasure"but what I know is, none of us completely find value in the same things... So live and let live; judge not, least ye be judged and LEARN FROM YOUR LIFE EXPERIENCES AND INJECT THIS LOVINGLY INTO YOUR ART - AND YOUR PROFILE PICTURE Smile

From here you can't really go wrong... I think, somebody's bound to appreciate it!

Hope y'all had a creative day!

I doubt the Pharaohs used much of any kind of tools, as they could not even go to the bathroom without a slave in attendance. But the thousands of slaves probably used them.

It could be said that the author of this thread is fairly good-looking, judging by his avatar. Slim, trendy-looking. Maybe he was just fishing for compliments?

"Maybe he was just fishing for compliments? - Joseph Draye

The posting of "The Gilmore Fallacy" is mighty strange bait. It would be much easier just to ask for opinions. As it is, he has gotten more questions (which remain unanswered) than compliments.

It seems that this thread was more of a social experiment than anything else.

Well Georgia,

it certainly inspired it! Thought I'd go for something a little more 'glamorous'! I was planning to do it anyway because the previous icon was there for almost a year...

I still don't get the thinking/ agenda behind this thread, a sweeping remark that would put Dyson to shame!

Anyhow, I'm glad you like it! Remember, I'm watching you... All of you!!! hehehe!

Peace, love and elbow-grease!

I hadn't known you were a mod, until I looked at the artist list. Actually, I didn't know others were too(a veritable police state) lol. I may be the only one here who isn't!

As far as the agenda behind this thread, we may never know, as the author has not returned to it, to further enlighten us. Smile
